April 1, 2025: ☕️ For this week's Coffee Chat, I have a confession to share. I just got back from the beach, and I turned down an awesome incentive on my Spring Break trip. 😳

Now, you might be thinking, "Eric, you LIVE for incentives!" And you’re right—I do. I’m a 25+ year veteran of the loyalty/incentive space. Why did I walk away from this one? Answer: You’ll hear the story in my Coffee Chat video.

But here’s what’s interesting: I’m not alone.

Research from loyalty firms Kobie Marketing and ebbo back up what I felt at that moment:

  • 50% of consumers avoid loyalty programs because of long enrollment processes or asking too much personal info

  • 42% say programs can require too much effort or are time-consuming

  • 27% find them just plain inconvenient

Bottom line? Loyalty should be simple.

Sometimes, other priorities or benefits offered by your favorite brand take precedence over a loyalty incentive. So, if an incentive feels like more work than it’s worth, even from a well-loved brand, maybe it’s okay just to say no.

Happy Spring Break, everyone! 🌴
